9 sentenced to death for attack on train carrying Sheikh Hasina

The accused are District BNP's Liberation War Affairs Secretary KM Akhtaruzzaman, Ishwardi municipality BNP (suspended committee) general secretary Zakaria Pintu (absconding), central BNP executive committee member and former municipal mayor Moklesur Rahman alias Bablu, his brother former student leader Rezaul Karim alias Shahin, Former brother of Rajshahi University's student wing Mahbubur Rahman alias P. Asa, the BNP leader said. Atul, Ishwardi Municipality Jubo Dal President Shyamal (Noor Mostafa), Swechchasebak Dal leader Azizur Rahman alias Shahin and former BNP leader Shamsul Alam.


The accused are BNP leader Aminul Islam (absconding), Azad Hossain alias Khokon, Ismail Hossain alias Jewel, Alauddin Biswas, Shamsur Rahman, Anisur Rahman (absconding), Akkel Ali, Mohammad Rabi, Mohammad Enam, Abul Kashem, Kala Babu, Md. . Mamun (fugitive), Mamun-2 (fugitive), Selim Hossain, Md. Kallol, Tuhin, Shah Alam alias Liton, Abdullah Al Mamun, Laiju (fugitive), Abdul Jabbar, Palash, Abdul Hakim, Alamgir Hossain, AKM Ferozul Islam alias Pailel and Abul Kalam.


The accused are BNP leader and former chairman of Shahapur union of Ishwardi upazila, Nafour Rahman Raju, Ajmal Hossain, former student leader and former councilor of Ishwardi municipality Anwar Hossain, former student leader of Chhatra Dal. Runo (fugitive), Md. Barkat, Chand Ali (fugitive), Enamul Kabir, Md. Moktar, Hafizur Rahman Mukul, Humayun Kabir alias Dulal (Palatak), Jamrul (fugitive), Tuhin Bin Siddique and Fazlur Rahman.


In the case, the prosecutor of the state prosecutor and district judge judge's prosecutor Akhtaruzzaman confirmed the verdict in the first light, according to the three sections of the Explosive Act of 1908, the court announced the verdict of the case. Five of the accused in the case have died in five years in the last 25 years. The remaining 47 were convicted. Of these, 32 were present in court during the verdict. They were sent to prison.


On 23 September 1994, Sheikh Hasina was going from Khulna to Syedpur with train work in the party's program in the northern region. When the train entered the Ishwardi railway junction station in Pabna, the local BNP leaders and activists attacked ambush on the train. The train fired heavily on firing and bombing. During this time, police attacked the BNP leaders and workers, targeting the police, the bomb was attacked on that day.


In this incident, Ishwardi GRP (Railway Police) Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nazrul Islam filed a case against the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leader and the general secretary (suspended committee) Zakaria Pintus. The police filed a final charge sheet in the court without getting any witnesses the next year after filing the case. At that time BNP was in power. But the court did not accept the charge sheet and sent the case to CID for further investigation.


The case was re-investigated after Awami League came to power in 1996. On April 3, 1997, police submitted the chargesheet to the court in the name of 52 people including the leader of the BNP, Juba Dal and Chhatra Dal of Ishwardi.


The court had on Sunday fixed the date for the appearance of the defendants in the court. 30 accused did not present any witnesses and prayed in the court for bail and prayer. The court ordered to send them to jail after rejecting their prayers. After the arguments on both parties on Monday, the court fixed the date for the verdict of the verdict. On Tuesday, the other two accused surrendered in the case.
